Paris: The Representative of the Autonomous Administration meets the former French President

The representation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the French capital, Paris, continues to hold meetings with personalities and political and cultural figures, who have influence on public opinion, to mobilise more support for the AANES’ areas, which still face a number of challenges, most notably the terrorist threat from Daesh and radical groups, such as Jabhat al-Nusra, which act according to Turkish orders.

In this context, the AANES Representative in France, Dr Khaled Issa, met with the former French President, Mr Francois Hollande, at the latter’s office in Paris.

The meeting touched on the overall situation and developments on the Syrian arena, and in the areas of the AANES in particular. Dr Issa and the former French President exchanged views on the prospects for a political solution in Syria, and the need to guarantee the rights of all components in the future Syria.

The two sides also discussed ways to permanently eliminate the terrorist threat, and the need to continue international support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to achieve the final defeat of Daesh and all extremist organisations and groups, which pose a permanent threat not only to the AANES’ areas, but to global peace and security.

During the meeting, Mr Hollande praised the experience of the AANES and the great role played by the SDF in the fight against terrorism, stressing the need for a greater contribution from European countries in supporting the AANES’ areas, by increasing co-operation and co-ordination with them.
